Too Much Sitting Can Kill You in a New Way

Too much sitting is already linked to a higher risk of anxiety disorder and certain types of cancer. Now you can throw liver disease into the mix, too. A new study out of South Korea finds those who spend at least 10 hours a day on their behinds have a 9% higher risk of developing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, or NAFLD, than those who sit for less than five hours a day. The finding remained true even for those with a BMI of less than 23, which is considered normal. The study also found a link between NAFLD and exercise, as physically active participants were 20% less likely to develop the disease, author Seungho Ryu tells Live Science. But physical activity should replace sitting time, rather than attempt to make up for it.
“Our findings suggest that both increasing participation in physical activity and reducing sitting time may be independently important in reducing the risk of NAFLD,” a co-author says in a release.
It isn’t clear how sitting affects the liver, but researchers say other health problems are unlikely to explain the link to NAFLD because the study was based on 139,000 generally healthy Koreans with an average age of 40. The findings are important because “the amount of time spent doing sedentary activity such as sitting at a computer or watching TV has increased dramatically in recent years,” Ryu says. An expert suggests getting 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week or taking 10,000 steps per day. “The message is clear, our chairs are slowly but surely killing us,” he says. “Our body is designed to move.” About 19% of Americans suffer from NAFLD, which can cause the swelling and scarring of the liver, and most are forced to change their lifestyle. (Standing might not be so great, either.)

38 Dumbbell Exercises That You’ve Probably Never Seen

These movements will ignite your metabolism
But what about 20? Or 25? For most people—that may not be you, oh experienced one!—we think it’s doubtful.

In this video, Men’s Health Fitness Director BJ Gaddour, C.S.C.S., provides 39 seriously unique ways to use a dumbbell. But these exercises aren’t novel for the sake of being novel.
Each movement challenges your body in a beneficial way, whether that's to engage your core more, better target weak spots, or simply provide a new training stimulus, to speed results.
You won’t love all of them. And you’ll probably make a joke or two when you see the “piston push-pull.” (You should!) But try it with a 20-pound dumbbell for 40 seconds straight. It’s no joke.

And that’s our advice for all of these exercises. Give them a shot. Add them into your workouts and experiment. You may just find a new favorite exercise. (Or maybe it’ll be two, three, or even 10!)

Food Secrets that Fueled Novak Djokovic’s Success

8 Food Secrets that Fueled Novak Djokovic’s Success

What does it take to become the number one tennis player in the world?
A lot of practice. Nerves of steel. And, if you’re Novak Djokovic, a strict gluten-free diet that he says has played a major role in helping him attain the number one ranking. The newly-crowned U.S. Open men’s singles winner and reigning Wimbledon champion reveals what he eats during a tournament, in an exclusive Eat This, Not That! adaptation from his book Serve to Win. Here’s the food that fuels his quest to win his 10th Grand Slam title.
Grand Slam Secret #1
Most of us have morning rituals, but mine is probably stricter than most.
The first thing I do out of bed is to drink a tall glass of room-temperature water. I’ve just gone eight hours without drinking anything, and my body needs hydration to start functioning at its peak. Water is a critical part of the body’s repair process. But I avoid ice water, for a reason. When you drink ice water, the body needs to send additional blood to the digestive system in order to heat the water to 98.6 degrees. There’s some benefit to this process—heating the cold water burns a few additional calories. But it also slows digestion and diverts blood away from where I want it—in my muscles.
Eat This, Not That! tip: Also drink a cup of tea. Barberry, rooibos, pu-erh and white tea are proven fat-blasters, and we’ve included them in our best-selling diet plan (on which test panelists lost an amazing 10 pounds in one week): The 7-Day Flat-Belly Tea Diet and Cleanse!
Grand Slam Secret #2
The second thing I do might really surprise you: I eat two spoonfuls of honey. Every day. I try to get manuka honey, which comes from New Zealand. It is a dark honey made by bees that feed on the manuka tree (or tea tree), and has been shown to have even greater antibacterial properties than regular honey.
I know what you’re thinking: Honey is sugar. Well, yes, it is. But your body needs sugar. In particular, it needs fructose, the sugar found in fruits, some vegetables, and especially honey. What it doesn’t need is processed sucrose, the stuff in chocolate, soda, or most energy drinks that gives you an instant sugar shot in the body, where you feel like “Wow!”
I don’t like “wow.” “Wow” is no good. If you have “wow” now, that means in thirty minutes you’re going to have “woe.”
Grand Slam Secret #3
After a little stretching or some light calisthenics, I’m ready for breakfast. Most days I have what I call the Power Bowl, a normal-sized bowl I fill with a mixture of:
Gluten-free muesli or oatmeal
A handful of mixed nuts—almonds, walnuts, peanuts
Some sunflower or pumpkin seeds
Fruits on the side, or sliced up in the bowl, like banana and all kinds of berries
A small scoop of coconut oil (I like it for the electrolytes and minerals)
Rice milk, almond milk or coconut water

Grand Slam Secret #4
One bowl of these ingredients is generally enough for me. If I think that I will need something more—I rarely do—then I wait about twenty minutes and have a little gluten-free toasted bread, tuna fish, and some avocado. I love avocado; it’s one of my favorites.

Andrology

Andrology

Andrology (from Ancient Greek: νήρ, anēr, genitive νδρός, andros, "man"; and -λογία, -logia) is the medical specialty that deals with male health,
particularly relating to the problems of the male reproductive system and urological problems that are unique to men.
It is also known as "The science of Men". It is the counterpart to gynaecology, which deals with medical issues which are specific to the female reproductive system. However unlike gynaecology, which has a plethora of medical board certification program worldwide, andrology has none.
Andrology has only been studied as a distinct specialty since the late 1960s: the first specialist journal on the subject was the German periodical Andrologie (now called Andrologia), published from 1969 onwards.

Male-specific medical and surgical procedures include Vasectomy, Vasovasostomy (one of the vasectomy reversal procedures), Orchidopexy and Circumcision as well as intervention to deal with male genitourinary disorders such as the following:
